Question About The Sound

Average: 5 (1 vote)

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question, I'm a HUGE fan of ELO, Classical Music, Rock, and Electronica and made a talk box for myself - but I can't get the sound I want to mimic ELO.

In the songs Mr. Blue Sky and Confusion you hear the (what sounds to be pianist) going "Mister blue skyyyy" when the letters come on on the old video version, and when Jeff says "Confusion!" In the current video for Mr. Blue Sky, you can see the Pianist saying it but I can't tell what he is using equipment wise - does anyone know?

Thank you so much!

If you're talking about an electronically altered voice, then you're look at a Vocoder.

"Vocoders were utilized extensively by The Electric Light Orchestra, particularly on songs such as Mr. Blue Sky: the EMS Vocoder 2000W MkI, The prologue from the 'Time' album: the Roland VP-330 Plus MkI, and The Diary of Horace Wimp: also the EMS Vocoder (-System) 2000(W or B, MkI or II), to name just a few."
