I can play a bit of acoustic guitar and I've tried to learn some ELO tunes without much success I might add! But this is from chord boxes from ELO sheet music I've collected over time. Like The Beatles and many other bands, I would think, ELO have some wierd chords in their songs, but I'm not convinced that these transcriptions are accurate and because of this I feel it's difficult at times to play which I find off-putting sometimes. Man, I wish I had his talent. I've always found there's so much going on in an ELO tune which is why I love them so much. Perhaps some may say they were a little over produced, looking back. Out of the Blue would probably be a good example of this, but who cares it's ELO! Which leads me to your point of how did he keep track of the tunes in the early stages, good question! He was obviously passionate about his music and I believe a perfectionist. Quite simply a very talented guy who we don't get much from these days, sadly.
